Now, I'm a Sox fan, but didn't it take them something like 81 years to win a Series? I'd like to do this in, say, four months.

(In a longer view, I suppose, one could say it's taken us 232 years to do this...)

As much as I hope and pray to the Great Spaghetti Monster that this will take place, I cannot help but remember that 51% of this country voted for bush lite last time, and deep down, there a lot of very very very very ignorant people living in America.
And by ignorant, I mean bigots.
Even at work, highly educated longterm financial professionals won't vote for because he is "one of those muslims'.
I wish I was making this up...

Gas lighting and electric power became available to the middle class at about the same time in the late nineteenth century. Generally, people didn't trust electricity because they didn't like the idea of lightning moving through their walls, so gas lighting had an early market advantage, despite the fact that it was more expensive and much more likely to blow up your home or poision you. Americans were slow to adopt electricity, but I think we always move toward progress and acceptance. Perhaps slowly, but we move.
